Laser Welding

Aim Controls can help you with a variety of industrial laser system weldingapplications. Aim has high quality CO2, YAG and UV lasers to evaluate your laser welding application. Contact an Aim engineer to discuss your particular application.

Plastics:

Aim has considerable experience with laser welding of many plastics. Most plastic welding done with an industrial laser system is for thin plastic sheet (up to 10 mil thick). This type of application is typically done with a CO2 laser of 100 to 300 watts of power. Aim has developed several industrial laser systems for welding plastic of this nature, including plastic bag laser welding and high volume/speed laser welding on a large, moving web (up to 72" wide).

Aim has also worked with CO2 lasers for use in laser welding of thicker plastics like acrylic and polycarbonate sheets.

Aim also has experience with using welding fluids between plastic sheets in conjunction with diode lasers in the 940 to 980 nm range. This is becoming an increasingly important type of process for many industrial laser applications.

Metal:

Different metals require different types of lasers for welding. Aim Controls has worked with a variety of metals, including steel, stainless steel, copper, brass, and others. CO2 can be used for certain steels, while a YAG is often best for other metals. Certain applications and metals may require a UV laser.
